Phlebotomist - Blood Drawing Specialist

As a Phlebotomist at Hardin Medical Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Your primary responsibility will be to draw and collect blood samples from patients, verify records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepares patients for blood drawing procedures, including pricking fingers to draw blood.
• Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station logs and brings discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
• Verifies patient identity by reading patient identification.
• Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
• Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures.
• Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug doses and collection times.
• Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection, and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
• Monitors glucose levels by performing bedside glucose tests, recording results, and reporting results to unit nurse-managers.
• Performs bleeding-time tests by entering results to the computer and notifying pathologists of results falling outside normal ranges.
Requirements:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent, with some blood drawing training required.
• At least 2 years of patient blood drawing work experience, with a minimum of 500 sticks.
• Certification by a nationally recognized organization is required.
Working Conditions:
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking are required.
• Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.
• Must be able to see with corrective eye wear and hear clearly with assistance.
• May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
• Ability to handle emergency and/or crisis situations, and may be required to wear protective equipment as necessary.
• Transferring, repositioning patients, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions are required.
• Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests, including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
