Position Summary
We are seeking skilled Anesthesia Technicians who wish to broaden their experience in a diverse clinical environment. This role offers opportunities for professional growth within Duke Health.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the Operating Room schedule to assess supply and equipment requirements for procedures; prepare anesthetic areas by setting up and calibrating monitoring devices; troubleshoot any equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs.
- Assist anesthesia providers with both non-invasive and invasive procedures, employing aseptic techniques for tasks such as intravenous line placements and airway management.
- Monitor patients' physiological responses and alert anesthesia providers to any significant changes in vital signs or overall condition.
- Ensure cleanliness of anesthesia machines and equipment in accordance with Infection Control protocols.
- Maintain adequate stock of anesthesia supplies across all relevant locations.
- Support anesthesia providers by obtaining necessary supplies and equipment as needed.
- Assist in conducting patient laboratory tests and interpreting results, including ABGs and ACTs.
- Facilitate the preparation and delivery of blood products and medications, remaining readily available for routine and emergency procedures.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for fellow technicians and healthcare team members, providing guidance and training as appropriate.
- Participate in educational sessions for other anesthesia technicians and contribute to their orientation and training.
- May assume charge responsibilities to manage the daily workflow of anesthesia technicians, ensuring a safe and efficient environment.
- Maintain professional certification through ongoing education and training.

Work Schedule
Shift: Four 10-hour days, Monday through Friday (specifics to be discussed during the interview).
Qualifications
High School Diploma required; college coursework in healthcare or basic sciences preferred. An Associate's degree in Anesthesia Technology from an accredited ASATT program is preferred.
Experience
One year of direct patient care experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, or in a related clinical role is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications
Basic Life Support Provider Certification is required; certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of anesthesia procedures and the ability to anticipate the needs of anesthesia providers.
- Strong prioritization skills and the capacity to respond to life-threatening situations.
- Effective communication skills with patients to explain procedures and alleviate concerns.
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with healthcare team members.
- Physical capability to perform job duties, including lifting, standing, and prolonged periods of activity.
