About the Role

Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Forensic Scientist Co-Op to join our team. As a Co-Op, you will have the opportunity to work with Subject Matter Experts in Forensics and Innovative Technologies (FIT) group, gaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art analytical instruments and applying them for forensics testing to support manufacturing, patient complaints, and counterfeit product investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Manufacturing Investigations: Characterize and identify extraneous/foreign matter samples using relevant analytical techniques, including mid-IR, Raman, SEM/EDS, and microscopy.
  • Investigate Product Quality Complaints: Analyze returned samples to identify the root cause of quality issues.
  • Perform Suspect Product Authentication: Use NIR, mid-IR, and Raman spectroscopy to verify the authenticity of products.
  • Develop Spectral Database: Create a database of spectral data using existing and acquired spectra with KnowItAll software.
  • Perform Routine Calibration and Maintenance: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of analytical instruments in a GMP laboratory setting.
  • Document Experiments and Author Reports: Record all experiments in laboratory notebooks to GMP standards and author investigation reports.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Senior in college towards a BS/MS in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry, or Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum GPA 3.0 and experience working with spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques, such as UV, mid-IR, NIR, Raman, MS, GC, and HPLC.
  • Skills: Proficient written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, team-oriented, and ability to multi-task.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with computers and experience with typical office and scientific/instrument software applications.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of global pharmaceutical regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
