Position Summary:
The Lifestyle Coordinator is responsible for designing, organizing, and executing a diverse activities program that caters to the unique interests of residents, offering them fulfilling and enriching experiences across social, educational, recreational, and spiritual domains. This role involves recruiting, managing, and training volunteers, while also fostering employee engagement in the activities program. The Lifestyle Coordinator plays a vital role within the management team of the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Resident Engagement
1. Ensure the execution of Oaks Senior Living Life Enrichment Program guidelines for residents, aligning with the philosophy of Person-Centered Lifestyle and resident rights.
2. Develop, plan, and actively participate in daily and weekly Life Enrichment programming.
3. Collaborate with the kitchen team regarding food services for special occasions, provide updates on resident attendance during outings, and coordinate snacks for events.
4. Create a comprehensive monthly activities calendar that reflects the diverse interests of residents, offering enriching opportunities. Oversee all special events, including holiday celebrations.
5. Leverage community resources and entertainers to schedule a variety of activities, including special events.
6. Enhance local community involvement by promoting volunteerism among community members.
7. Utilize Family and Social History under Oaks Person-Centered Lifestyle objectives to communicate resident preferences and choices.
8. Facilitate a monthly forum for residents to express their ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding activities through resident council meetings.
9. Encourage and assist residents in attending activities that interest them.
10. Adhere to each Resident's Care Plan and inform the Wellness Director of any changes in resident conditions.
11. Assist with welcoming new residents and introducing them to their peers.
12. Support meal service and supervise caregiver staff.
13. Maintain an adequate inventory of equipment for regular activities, adhering to budgetary constraints.
14. Arrange transportation for regular and special outings, as well as for medical appointments.
15. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
16. Comply with Oaks Senior Living policies, training programs, and applicable regulations.
17. Complete 24 hours of continuing education in the first year of employment and 16 hours annually thereafter. Maintain CPR & First Aid certification.
Management Duties
1. Review all communication tools daily used in providing resident care.
2. Communicate residents' needs with caregiver staff and with the Executive Director and Wellness Director as necessary. Establish and maintain effective relationships with residents and their families.
3. Participate in the Manager-on-Duty rotation. Lead by example, foster teamwork, promote the Oaks Senior Living philosophy, and provide ongoing coaching to employees.
4. Adhere to infection control procedures and resident transfer guidelines.
5. Respond to on-the-job injuries in accordance with Oaks Senior Living policies and procedures.
Volunteer Management
1. Cultivate and maintain a robust volunteer base through community relationship building.
2. Orient and train volunteers on residence operations, resident interactions, and key policies.
3. Align volunteers' interests with specific activities to enrich the experiences of both residents and volunteers.
4. Supervise and provide continuous support and coaching to volunteers.
5. Encourage family members of residents to volunteer and engage in activities at the residence.
6. Train employees to conduct activities and promote resident participation.
7. Regularly acknowledge volunteers for their contributions.
Qualifications:
1. A minimum of one year of experience working with residents in a long-term care environment.
2. Preferred experience in program and event planning for older adults.
3. Ability to interact and build relationships with older adults, with a genuine desire to work with this demographic.
4. Strong creativity and organizational skills are essential.
5. Supervisory experience in a healthcare or service industry is preferred.
6. Clean driving record and willingness to operate a company vehicle for resident transport.
7. Must be at least 21 years of age and pass a satisfactory criminal history check.
8. Must undergo a physical examination by a licensed physician and pass a negative drug screening.
9. Must be capable of responding effectively in emergency situations.
Physical Job Requirements:
To meet job requirements, the employee must be able to perform key physical tasks for extended periods. Employees must adhere to proper body mechanics and safety measures when supporting or transferring residents. In a typical eight-hour workday, the employee will:
1. Stand or walk for up to eight hours and sit for up to two hours.
2. Frequently support up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
3. Frequently kneel, bend, and reach.
4. Secure appropriate assistance for resident transfers as needed.
