Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisory Mechanical Shop Manager to join our team at Occupational Safety & Health Administration. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our mechanical shop, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and modify work plans to integrate with systems and work in other work zones.
  • Identify and resolve changing work situations that result in conflicts in work schedule due to sequence, space, material, and other considerations.
  • Determine and provide resolution of operational and maintenance problems with shipyard and ship's personnel.
  • Maintain liaisons with key management in all shipyard departments.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates and set and adjust priorities.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
Qualifications
  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Serving as a project manager determining and providing resolution of operational and maintenance problems with shipyard and ship's personnel.
  • Applying administrative knowledge of trade work and technical methods, procedures, materials, and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of Navy vessels.
  • Managing a project or portion of a project involving the directing of federal wage system and general schedule employees.
  • Demonstrating experience in project management, quality control, cost control, schedule control, and work flow control techniques.
  • Applying Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Federal/State environmental regulations, and local instructions that outline requirements for training and qualifications.
