Role Overview:

As a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Specialist, you will report directly to the Manager of Facility Services. Your main responsibility will be to uphold the safety and security of both personnel and property. Daily tasks will include testing, installing, maintaining, and repairing electronic security, surveillance, automation, and life safety systems throughout the facility. You will also be responsible for programming the building automation control systems and engaging in special projects from conception to execution.

Your expertise in fire alarm systems, technical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation will be essential as you collaborate across departments and explore diverse opportunities. We are eager to learn about your drive to contribute to a meaningful mission alongside a team that fosters individual and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • (40%) Conduct preventive maintenance on automation systems, including building management and control systems, life safety, security, and surveillance systems. Maintain the Building Automation System's LAN network, including workstations, networking cables, servers, and access points. Test these systems for functionality, diagnose issues, and make necessary adjustments or replacements. Utilize your technical knowledge of electricity, electronics, and software programming to troubleshoot and repair systems. Assist in planning the sequence and methods for electronic maintenance and repairs. Manage inventory and order electronic equipment as needed.
  • (30%) Modify and evaluate programming for building automation systems using appropriate software. Ensure complete and up-to-date documentation for all system changes and communicate these changes to users. Maintain software backups of automated building system processors and recommend enhancements for system improvements. Program automation systems to meet the operational needs of facility staff and assist them in understanding programming options.
  • (15%) Install electronic equipment and hardware in compliance with various codes, including National Safety Code and local electrical codes. Design and install control circuits to enhance existing systems. Serve as a resource for building services and security staff regarding equipment operations. Perform maintenance and installation on other electronic devices as required. Create and update schematics and wiring diagrams as necessary.
  • (15%) Play a crucial role in the development and execution of various building projects. Research best practices while considering safety and regulatory issues related to building automation, life safety, and security systems. Schedule and supervise service contractors to ensure timely project completion. Maintain the building automation database in alignment with organizational needs and assist in the development of related databases.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics with 3+ years of experience in installation, programming, and maintenance of building automation systems (preferably Honeywell and Johnson Controls) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in reading building blueprints and schematics, with a strong understanding of relevant state and local building codes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate effective decision-making skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Strong customer focus, initiative, accuracy, and effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently or collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work at heights and on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
Technical Skills:
  • Familiarity with hardware and software components of a PC, as well as basic data networking concepts.
  • Proficient in common PC functions and applications, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Office, and Internet Explorer.
Certification Requirements:
  • Strongly Preferred: NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems Level 1 (to be obtained within 1 year of employment)
  • Preferred: NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems Level 2 (to be obtained within 2 years of employment).
  • Member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), must maintain CPR/1st Aid/AED certification; may be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
