Los Angeles, California, United States La2050 Full time

The Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition (BSS) is a leading force in advocating for transformative policies that address issues like school discipline reform, the school-to-prison pipeline, and youth criminalization throughout Los Angeles County.

About this role

This dynamic position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of youth advocacy in Los Angeles and drive impactful change in the lives of boys and young men of color. As the Coalition Director, you will oversee the administration, organizing, campaigns, funder relationships, and strategic plan of the coalition.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic vision of BSS, driving policy reforms, overseeing youth-driven/led campaigns, and cultivating a collective commitment to systemic change among diverse stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a nonprofit or advocacy-focused role, with demonstrated skills in team leadership, coalition building, and campaign development.

A deep familiarity with LA's social and policy landscape, especially issues impacting communities of color, is essential. Additionally, the Director should possess a demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural competence, and a passion for supporting and uplifting marginalized youth.

Experience in financial management, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement is highly valued, as well as the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, from youth leaders to policymakers, with clarity and shared purpose.

To be successful in this role, you will need to lead a dedicated team of 5 organizers, manage the coalition's budget to ensure long-term financial sustainability, and cultivate relationships with existing and potential funders. Within the first year, you will focus on developing a campaign agenda in partnership with coalition members, designing and implementing internal processes to streamline team collaboration, and boost youth-focused programs.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. If you are passionate about creating positive change in the lives of boys and young men of color, please consider applying for this exciting opportunity.
