Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition

">

The Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition (BSS) is a pioneering alliance of community-based organizations dedicated to transforming the lives of young boys and men of color through impactful policy reforms.

Founded in 2011, BSS has been at the forefront of advocating for systemic change in Los Angeles County, addressing issues like school discipline reform, the school-to-prison pipeline, and youth criminalization. By collaborating with local partners, BSS empowers the rights and well-being of young men of color, advancing alternative solutions to punitive practices in schools and communities across Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The Coalition Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic vision of BSS, driving impactful policy reforms, overseeing youth-driven/led campaigns, and cultivating a collective commitment to systemic change among diverse stakeholders.

This visionary leader will lead a dedicated team of 5 organizers, manage the coalition's budget to ensure long-term financial sustainability, and cultivate relationships with existing and potential funders. The Director will focus on developing a campaign agenda in partnership with coalition members, designing and implementing internal processes to streamline team collaboration, and boost youth-focused programs.

In addition to leadership and advocacy, the Coalition Director will take an active role in fundraising, working closely with anchor organizations to raise $1M annually in support of BSS's mission. A deep understanding of LA's social and policy landscape, particularly issues impacting communities of color, is essential. The ideal candidate should possess a demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural competence, and a passion for supporting and uplifting marginalized youth.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of youth advocacy in Los Angeles and drive impactful change in the lives of boys and young men of color. The position comes with a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $90,000 annually, along with comprehensive benefits.

We are seeking a dynamic leader who can bring together diverse stakeholders to drive meaningful change. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a nonprofit or advocacy-focused role, with demonstrated skills in team leadership, coalition building, and campaign development.

Experience in financial management, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement is highly valued. A proven track record of success in similar roles, combined with a strong network of contacts within the nonprofit sector, is desirable. If you are a motivated and results-driven professional passionate about creating positive change in the lives of young people, we encourage you to apply.
