Job Description

The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist II plays a vital role in the laboratory team at Jackson Hospital, responsible for performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and laboratory testing under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor I and Medical Technologists II.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and process patient specimens, ensuring accurate identification and handling.
  • Perform laboratory testing, reporting results under technical supervision.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies, restocking as needed.
  • Assist with instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and resolution of problems.
  • Collaborate with nursing and lab staff as needed, subject to supervisor approval.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience as a Lab Assistant I, and 1 year at Jackson Hospital or an Associate Degree in Science.
  • Phlebotomy Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good eyesight, hearing, and physical ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye/hand coordination.
  • Periodic heavy lifting (30-50lb) required for reagents and storage boxes.
