Manufacturing Engineer for Dragon Spacecraft Mechanisms
4 weeks ago
At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible in space exploration. As a Manufacturing Engineer for Dragon Spacecraft Mechanisms, you'll play a critical role in developing the technologies that will enable human life on Mars.
The Manufacturing Engineer will lead the production, assembly, and integration of spacecraft structural mechanisms, developing production procedures and managing the transition of parts and assemblies from development to full-rate production. You'll influence new product designs with Design for Manufacturability and Assembly feedback, implementing design changes, process improvements, and build flow changes to existing products to reduce assembly/fabrication hours and build cost.
You'll create and maintain project lifecycle roadmaps from first article production through sustainment, resolving and analyzing manufacturing discrepancies while interfacing with the quality team. Additionally, you'll conceptualize and develop tooling, fixturing, and shop aides to enhance production processes.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of science degree in aerospace, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering
- 2 years of manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, or testing experience (internship experience can supplement for the required industry experience)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Master of science degree in aerospace, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering
- Experience with spacecraft or aircraft structural assemblies
- Process development, facility and line layouts, PFMEA, Error-Proofing
- Experience with Unigraphics (UGS) and Teamcenter CAD and PDM systems
- Knowledge of metallic manufacturing techniques, processes, equipment, and other processes such as: machining, welding, drilling, sheet metal forming
- Understanding of data acquisition systems (National Instruments hardware, LabView programming)
Additional Requirements:
- Position may require long hours and weekend work
- Must be team-oriented and be involved with the shop floor
ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
