Estimator - Production Planning Specialist
3 weeks ago
The Estimator is responsible for estimating from requests on quotes that are submitted to the Process Engineering Department using the most current processes, procedures, and best practices. This includes determining the most cost-effective plan for production of parts, which involves master quotes, process documentation, specifications, working knowledge, and experience of Boyd Corporation products and processes.
This position will work with the production team and vendors to obtain information to determine the cost of a plan using a system to quote.
The Estimator will gather information necessary to prepare quotes for producing parts for Boyd Corporation customers, follow up with revisions as needed, and ensure adherence to the company work instructions for quoting.
Key responsibilities include working with Production Quality teams to problem solve troubled jobs, determine solutions, and update quotes as needed.
The Estimator will also ensure thorough review of various customer, government, military, and industry standards to make sure that the parts meet the specifications the customer has referenced and are within the capabilities of the company.
When parts cannot meet the specifications, the Estimator will provide detailed notes explaining technically why and then quote the closest alternative materials and/or processes and provide details as to why the suggested alternatives should be the most effective solution.
The Estimator will incorporate new requirements into the quote, which involves compiling the relevant technical information, condensing it to written work instructions in the quote.
Determining if customer drawings are adequate for use in our plant is also a key responsibility, and the Estimator will work to resolve any discrepancies in a timely and accurate timeframe.
The Estimator will work with the CAD department lead or other members to quote the in-house drawings, ensuring our established standards and specifications needs are met and achievable.
Maintaining checklists listing all the items that need special attention and what is required to meet these requirements is also a key responsibility.
The Estimator will use the checklists to make sure each quote has the latest updates for each customer, from both the customer and Boyd.
Implementing the latest customer specification changes for both materials and processes in line with the company's established procedures and protocols is also a key responsibility.
The Estimator will consult and work with all internal departments and team members, including production staff, production control, purchasing, and sales as needed to explore details, ideas, and problem-solving.
This includes working within the established Change Control process.
The Estimator will frequently visit the plant and other departments to help solve manufacturing problems as well as learn about potential roadblocks or hurdles we could encounter in advance of a quote.
