Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate quotes for producing parts for Boyd Corporation customers. This involves gathering information, following up with revisions, and ensuring adherence to company work instructions for quoting.

This position requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under time constraints with changing priorities.

The Estimator will work closely with the production team and vendors to obtain information and determine the cost of a plan using system to quote.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Gathering information necessary to prepare quotes for producing parts for Boyd Corporation customers
  • Following up with revisions as needed and ensuring adherence to company work instructions for quoting
  • Working with Production Quality teams to problem solve troubled jobs, determine solutions, and update quotes as needed
  • Ensuring thorough review of various customer, government, military, industry standards to make sure that the parts meet the specifications the customer has referenced and are within the capabilities of the company
  • Providing detailed notes explaining technically why parts cannot meet specifications and quoting the closest alternative materials and/or processes
  • Incorporating new requirements into the quote, which involves compiling the relevant technical info, condensing it to written work instructions in the quote
  • Determining if customer drawings are adequate for use in our plant and resolving any discrepancies in a timely and accurate timeframe
  • Working with CAD department lead or other members to quote the in-house drawings ensuring our established standards and specifications needs are met and achievable
  • Maintaining checklists listing all the items that need special attention and what is required to meet these requirements
  • Implementing the latest customer specification changes for both materials processes in line with the company's established procedures and protocols
  • Consulting and working with all internal departments and team members including production staff, production control, purchasing, and sales as needed to explore details, ideas, and problem solving
  • Frequently visiting the plant and other departments to help solve manufacturing problems as well as learn about potential roadblocks or hurdles we could encounter in advance of a quote

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years' experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with estimating procedures and quoting best practices is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality at all times
  • Ability to be proactive, self-managed and a capable problem solver
  • Proficient with MS Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and use of a PC
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English in support of the company's safety and work instruction processes
  • Strong ability to read and analyze drawings
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Confident decision-making skills
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities with a focus on efficiency
  • Ability to work under time constraints with changing priorities under minimal supervision
  • Must be able to follow directions and work in a team environment
  • Additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives and goals

Pay Range: $28.85-$31.25 per hour ($60,000-$65,000 per year)
