Position Overview
The Chief Executive Officer will lead strategic initiatives and provide guidance for all aspects of LISC's programs and investments in Detroit. This role involves securing local capital and resources, leveraging support from National LISC, and nurturing relationships with government, philanthropic, community, and civic partners. A strong commitment to the role of community-based organizations as catalysts for positive change is essential, along with an understanding of the broader public and private partnerships that can enhance community development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
- Strategically cultivate and manage a portfolio of existing relationships, focusing on philanthropy, financial institutions, corporations, and government, particularly to support Project 10X aimed at closing the racial wealth, health, and opportunity gap.
- Identify and develop new partnerships with foundations and public/private stakeholders committed to Detroit's community development.
- Lead efforts to achieve annual multi-million dollar fundraising targets to ensure operational sustainability and meet programmatic goals, including organizing an annual event and crafting a communication strategy to highlight milestones.
- Oversee the Local Advisory Board and its committees to align with the strategic direction of Detroit's initiatives.
- Implement a three-year strategic plan with guidance from the Market Excellence team.
- Oversee the expansion of the Detroit investment pipeline to support LISC's comprehensive approach to equitable development, managing lending activities and creatively leveraging resources.
- Manage complex public-private partnerships and programs, including a Home Repair initiative and a housing fund, collaborating with government entities for innovative solutions.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for all LISC programs, enhancing the organization's presence in Detroit through targeted investments.
- Engage a diverse range of community partners to deliver integrated services in targeted neighborhoods, collaborating with local government, state agencies, and community organizations.
- Develop strategies to enhance workforce and economic stability.
- Establish key partnerships with public and private entities, including local and national CDFIs and LISC affiliates.
- Lead initiatives on housing and community development policy issues in Detroit.
- Advocate for LISC and policy networks at local, state, and federal levels to secure necessary tools for advancing comprehensive community development strategies.
- Guide a professional team to implement LISC's strategy and programs in a hybrid work environment, providing professional development opportunities.
- Manage annual operating and program budgets, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Foster a positive workplace culture and maintain strong relationships within the national LISC framework.
- Contribute to national LISC leadership discussions and initiatives.
- Highlight local innovations and programs within the national LISC context.
- Maximize the utilization of national LISC resources and expertise in Detroit.
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
- A minimum of 12 years of senior management experience in community development, real estate, and revitalization.
- Experience in affordable housing development or lending.
- Proven ability to attract and sustain philanthropic funding.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with experience in public speaking.
- Demonstrated management experience, including staff development and financial oversight.
- Track record of providing leadership in strategic vision development and implementation.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and manage programs in alignment with strategic goals.
- Knowledge of community development strategies and real estate resource utilization.
- Experience in building relationships with diverse populations and organizations.
- Understanding of housing policy, community development funding, and economic development strategies.
- Proficiency in using data to inform decision-making.
