Schedule/Hours:

M-F, flexible start times, No holidays, call or weekends. Pediatric experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Specializes in a surgical specialty area, serving as a resource for others and assisting with intricate surgical cases.
  • Prepares and operates various types of equipment according to each physician's specifications, ensuring the completeness and availability of specialty carts or items.
  • Mentors Surgical Technologists I, anticipating their needs and intervening when necessary.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient environment conducive to optimal patient care, applying knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques.
  • Performs a variety of procedures while maintaining a foundational understanding of different surgical processes.
  • Ensures the operating room's environmental disinfection, safety, and efficiency, including setting up and returning equipment post-procedure.
  • Adheres to approved infection control policies.
  • Communicates equipment and supply issues to appropriate staff.
  • Assists with patient positioning and transportation, utilizing proper techniques.
  • Acts as a Second Assistant when needed and helps in cleaning and wrapping instruments.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 6 months unless exempted by the department leader.
Education Required:
  • Completion of an accredited program in Surgical Technology.
Experience Required:
  • No prior experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Ability to meet Surgical Technologist I competencies.
  • Familiarity with and proficiency in all types of procedures within their specialty.
  • Maintains basic knowledge of various surgical procedures and equipment.
  • Participates in call coverage after completing formal orientation.
  • Engages in relevant educational programs and departmental meetings.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and reach frequently during work shifts.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and carrying up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Requires functional sight and hearing.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids is continuous.
  • Personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, goggles, and gowns will be required.
  • Operates all necessary equipment to perform job duties.
