Job Summary:

As a Speech Language Pathologist Per Diem with ECHN, you will provide high-quality therapeutic services to patients, evaluating their function and selecting and applying appropriate treatments to improve or restore function. You will participate in an interdisciplinary approach for in-service and community education, and in the clinical education of affiliating students. This role may also involve cross-site coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate patients based on departmental standards.
• Conduct and modify evaluations based on the patient's symptoms, level of activity, and medical status, establishing individualized, appropriate, measurable goals for each patient.
• Treat patients with the appropriate and acceptable therapeutic techniques.
• Administer physical agents (modalities) and manual therapeutic technique to attain established goals.
• Utilize effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech and language activity.
• Educate patients/families in home exercise programs and/or functional activities to maximize independent functional activity.
• Determine when a patient has achieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommend discharge if appropriate.
• Document in accordance with insurance guidelines and adhere to the department's policies and procedures.
• Seek and foster interdepartmental communication and communication with the referring physician regarding patient care.
• Accurately and consistently fill out and submit charges daily.
• Adhere to the professional code of ethics established by the ASHA and the facility at all times.
• Perform all duties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries.
• Supervise at least one affiliated student per year.
• Participate in at least one departmental in-service or community in-service as evidenced by documentation of educational program.

Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of a M.S.
• Holds or is eligible for current Connecticut license.
• Eligible or has a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
• Must have a valid driver's license for occasional travel between ECHN business sites.
• Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Basic personal computer skills in the use of Windows-based programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel as needed for department functions.
