Job Title: Education Coach

Job Summary:
The Education Coach is a vital member of our team at Greater Bergen Community Action, responsible for providing in-classroom support, professional development, and targeted coaching to help teachers improve their classroom practice. This role requires a strong understanding of early childhood education principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Learns and adheres to the philosophy and mandates of Head Start/Early Head Start as outlined in the Performance Standards, licensing requirements, and the Policies and Procedures of Greater Bergen Community Action (GBCA).
  2. Ensures children receive individual attention and supervises children by using your eyes and ears.
  3. Collaborates with Head Start Leadership to ensure that services are integrated into one comprehensive program.
  4. At the direction of the Director, Professional Development, assists with providing education/curriculum training as needed.
  5. Provides individualized coaching and guidance to assigned staff and assesses the need for training.
  6. Analyzes individual teachers and school-wide data to assess progress to identified goals.
  7. Conducts regular observations of staff performance and provides written feedback.
  8. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze data and identify trends, pinpoint problems and roots causes and innovative solutions.
  9. Communicates with staff to share information, build skills, oversee performance and resolve problems.
  10. Assists staff in designing and/or using a learning environment that supports the curriculum.
  11. Builds strong rapport and supports staff in their development of positive discipline skills to promote self-regulation and a positive self-image of each child.
  12. Provides monthly report to Director, Professional Development on progress toward assign teaching staff goals and work with external partners.
  13. Reinforces adherence to policies and procedures and Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
  14. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with management, clients, representatives of community organizations and other staff members.
  15. Participates in on-going professional development as directed.
  16. Responsible for the overall safety of each child in the GBCA HS/EHS program.
  17. Other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  1. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  2. Must demonstrate English proficiency - both oral and written.
  3. Demonstrates good computer skills as relevant to the position requirements.
  4. Strong goal orientation.
  5. Ability to physically care for the needs of the children in the classroom. This includes being able to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.
  6. May work outdoors with children during part of the day during each season.

Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in early childhood education or related field.
  2. NJ P-3.
  3. NJ Master Teacher (pre-school instructional coach) certification a plus.
  4. Valid NJ driver's license and use of own vehicle for self-transportation.

Ability to:
  1. Organize, set priorities and exercise sound independent judgment within areas of assigned responsibility.
  2. Exercise tact, objectivity, sensitivity, strategy and judgment in dealing with volunteers, parents and staff.
  3. Instruct and train individuals in a group setting and/or one-on-one.
  4. Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, correspondence and other written materials.
