Patient Assistance Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patient Assistance Specialist to join our team at Johnson Health Center. As a key member of our front office staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support in a fast-paced office setting.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate with patients in a courteous and professional manner, answering telephones, screening and routing incoming calls, and delivering information electronically.
- Promote the Team-based Care Model by participating in daily huddles and Patient Centered Medical Home bi-weekly team meetings to communicate and collaborate on patient issues and needs.
- Check in patients for acute clinic appointments, verify demographic information and insurance, and notify nursing staff and providers of patient arrival through the electronic medical record.
- Facilitate verification of patients' insurance, copy insurance cards, and contact the billing specialist as needed.
- Scan immunization records for patients being seen at the Pediatric office.
- Check out patients, schedule follow-up appointments, and print patient visit summaries.
- Collect money for co-payments, apply to patients' accounts, and print receipts.
- Balance cash drawers and log transactions at determined times of the day, requiring two signatures.
- Assist patients with the Reduced Fee application process, ensuring a clear understanding of the process and consistent follow-through.
- Review completed demographic forms and data entered by other Patient Assistance Specialists for accuracy.
- Collect data for patient complaints and work to resolve issues within scope, referring complex situations to the PES team member.
- Coordinate schedule blocks, train new employees, and relay updates and necessary information from the Front Office Supervisor to other PAS staff.
- Arrange schedules to ensure adequate coverage for the site, approve time off, and cover the office or arrange for coverage when there are absences.
- Order office supplies.
- Administer new hire performance checklists and yearly performance evaluations with PAS members at their assigned site.
- Delete payments or documents from the EMR for PAS members when necessary.
- Coordinate with the Associate Director of Patient Access or administrative staff for needed technical support.
- Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Patient Assistance Specialist position.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Some medical office experience preferred.
- Minimum 9 months experience at Johnson Health Center.
- Some experience leading a team of approximately 4-10 people.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products and ability to learn and/or previous experience with other computer-related applications such as electronic medical records.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of office equipment, i.e., scanners, printers, copy machines, telephone system, fax machine, credit card machine.
