Job Title: Optical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

KBR is seeking a highly skilled Optical Design Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge optical systems for space-related missions. As a key member of our team, you will apply advanced principles and theories to design and analyze complex optical systems, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement optical design solutions for space-based systems, considering factors such as optical performance, thermal management, and structural integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate optical systems with other spacecraft components, ensuring seamless operation and performance.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and testing of optical systems to identify and mitigate potential issues, ensuring compliance with stringent requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff, ensuring the successful execution of optical design and analysis tasks.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in optical design and analysis tools, techniques, and technologies, applying this knowledge to improve system performance and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in optical design and analysis, with a strong background in electro-optical systems and optical structures.
  • Expert knowledge of optical design and analysis tools, such as Zemax, CODE V, or equivalent.
  • Experience with DoD program management, including program development and transition, and a strong understanding of Integrated Master Schedules and risk management.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a SAP and/or SCI environment.

Desired Skills:

  • 15 years of relevant experience in optical design and analysis, with a strong background in adaptive optics and atmospheric correction techniques.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and transition to operations, as well as ACAT I/II level acquisition programs.
  • PhD in engineering or optical sciences, with a strong understanding of optical design and analysis principles and techniques.

Education:

  • Applicable engineering or optics degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • Relevant MA/MS/ME degree, with a strong background in optical design and analysis.

Clearance:

  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a SAP and/or SCI environment.

Work Location & Travel:

  • This position is full-time, on-site at Kirtland AFB, NM, with up to 25% travel within the continental United States.
