Job Description

A Day in the Life of a Financial Analyst

A financial analyst's day typically begins by reviewing key financial metrics and business trends, analyzing data to identify variances in budgets and financial performance. Throughout the day, they prepare reports, forecasts, and financial schedules, collaborating with managers and department heads to provide insights that drive decision-making. They also update financial models and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) like sales, cash flow, and headcount.

With strong attention to detail and a results-driven approach, they navigate ERP systems and tools like Excel to ensure accuracy in their reports. By the end of the day, they've contributed significantly to the company's financial strategy, ensuring data-driven decisions that support growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for general managers and department heads.
  • Finalize monthly business trend analyses and budget variance for the company, both at consolidated and branch levels.
  • Create and maintain financial schedules for internal and external customers across North America.
  • Produce monthly reports for branch performance, presented to Executive Management.
  • Prepare financial forecasts, including cash flow projections.
  • Populate and manage standard templates for the company's business intelligence tool.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as weekly sales, DSO, DPO, headcount, backlog, and WIP.
  • Assist in developing the annual operating budget.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Excel with experience in complex financial modeling, variance, and profitability analysis.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Exceptional ability to organize and create precise financial reports and schedules.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle Netsuite preferred) and deep operational knowledge of such systems.
  • Familiarity with business and cost drivers, financial statement analysis, and comprehensive deep-dive analysis.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis.
  • 2+ years of full-cycle budgeting experience.
  • Experience working directly with General Managers and diverse stakeholders.
  • MBA or CPA is preferred.
  • Some travel may be required.

Compensation:

The salary for this role is between $70,000 and $75,000. Specific compensation will be based on the skills, experience, seniority, merit, location, education, training, and need for travel of the selected candidate.
