General Overview:

Responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and effective preventative and repair maintenance services for all Family Dollar transportation machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts comprehensive repairs on all systems, sub-systems, and components of tractors, switchers, and trailers, excluding engine and transmission components.
  2. Handles tire mounting and dismounting tasks.
  3. Brands and organizes tires within the inventory system.
  4. Performs periodic inspections as per FHWA standards, inbound equipment evaluations, and follow-up work for preventative maintenance.
  5. Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  6. Supports the Maintenance Supervisor and lead technician as required.
  7. Adheres to established safety protocols to ensure personal safety.
  8. Keeps a tidy work environment and fosters a safe working atmosphere within the transportation division.
  9. Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  10. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance or a Diesel/Auto Technical School degree. Must possess a roll-around tool chest and all necessary hand tools for adjustments and repairs.
Physical Requirements: Capable of performing essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. Tasks require frequent lifting and moving of up to 60 pounds. The team member should maintain adequate fitness levels to handle frequent lifting, walking, standing, moderate climbing, occasional sitting, stooping, and kneeling. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory as per transportation requirements. Due to the high safety nature of this role, all Class C Technicians must meet specific physical criteria: 20/40 correctable vision in each eye (glasses or contact lenses are acceptable), diabetes managed through diet or oral medication (injection of insulin not accepted), blood pressure not exceeding 180/110 (prescription medication for blood pressure is acceptable), and blood sugar levels below 200. Use of Schedule 1 drugs, amphetamines, narcotics, or any habit-forming substances is prohibited. A stress test will be required for those with a current diagnosis of cardiac insufficiency, collapse, congestive cardiac failure, or other cardiovascular conditions.
Certifications: Must hold a valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred. The team member will complete an annual violation and review record and provide authorization for an annual MVR. Current Brake Certification and appropriate certification for conducting FHWA inspections preferred.
Working Conditions: The team member will operate in a non-climate-controlled environment, where external weather conditions significantly influence the building's temperature, although fans and heaters are utilized. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, equipment, fumes, and airborne particles as regulated by OSHA is possible.
Availability: The team member will work shifts and must be open to overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
