Job Title: Compass After-School Teacher

We are seeking a qualified Compass After-School Teacher to join our team at Brooklyn Community Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing hands-on, multi-sensory, and project-based lessons and activities for middle school children.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement thematic curriculum-based lessons and activities for 20-30 students daily.
  • Submit lesson plans to the program site director and Education Specialist for approval.
  • Plan and supervise field trips related to the thematic curriculum.
  • Participate in curriculum and professional development trainings as required.
  • Use creative and innovative teaching strategies to enhance literacy skills, social-emotional learning, arts, and STEM.
  • Work with the program site director and other staff to develop and plan culminating event presentations.
  • Engage and communicate with parents and families as required.
  • Provide effective supervision to students during classroom activities and transitions.
  • Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick-up of children.
  • Direct and work with assistant teachers.
  • Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings as required.
  • Assist with development of funding proposals as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, with a degree in Education being a plus.
  • Experience working with children and youth, with a passion for working with children.
  • Flexibility to work across all afterschool programs to provide coverage when needed.
  • Computer savvy in applications, video conferencing, and responding to emails.
  • Background check with NYC and NYS Department of Health and NYC Department of Education.
  • Current or former licensed teacher a plus.
  • Background in visual, performing arts, or sports coaching a plus.
