About the Role

The Brooklyn Public Library is seeking a highly skilled Adult Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our branch team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to adult patrons, developing and maintaining adult collections, and planning and conducting programs for adults.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collection Development: Develop and maintain adult collections in the branch, ensuring that they are relevant and engaging for our diverse community.
  • Program Planning and Delivery: Plan, conduct, and evaluate programs for adults, including author talks, book clubs, and other events that promote literacy and a love of reading.
  • Community Engagement: Visit neighborhood organizations, community meetings, and participate in community affairs to promote Brooklyn Public Library services, collections, and programs.
  • Customer Service: Provide reference information and readers advisory services to adult patrons, utilizing print and electronic resources.
  • Committee Work: Serve on committees as necessary, contributing to the development of library policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school, and Public Librarians Professional Certificate issued by the State of New York.
  • Skills and Experience: Knowledge of adult literature, websites, and programming; demonstrated respect and sensitivity toward diverse cultures represented in Brooklyn; working knowledge of the library's electronic reference resources, including the Internet and Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written); excellent customer service skills; ability to handle multiple competing priorities and tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
