About the Role
The DeKalb County School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Tutoring Specialist to lead our Academic Skills Center Team. As a Tutoring Specialist for Academic Excellence, you will provide focused tutoring support in various content areas and help students develop executive functioning skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between educators and Academic Skill Center Tutors to ensure seamless communication and collaboration
- Plan and facilitate meetings with ASC tutors to solve challenges, communicate information, build, and maintain positive relationships and community
- Collaborate with Principals and other educators on a regular basis to discuss student progress, resources, strategies, tools to support student growth
- Provide tutoring support to small groups of students assigned to the Academic Skills Centers
- Ensure tutors are supervised in their interactions with students and assist students in setting individual goals and monitoring progress towards achieving these goals
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between educators and tutors, and tutors and families to support successful educator and family communication
- Guide students as they engage with appropriate learning activities, resources, and/or supports to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Model dialogue, turn-taking, listening skills, kindness, empathy, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social and interpersonal behavior
- Attend and lead meetings as necessary to drive results and ensure team success
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A high school diploma or GED required; minimum sixty semester hours or ninety quarter hours of college courses completed with a grade of C or higher from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university
- A valid Professional Standards Commission approved paraprofessional certificate
