Position Overview

Holtec Decommissioning International (HDI) is actively seeking a Nuclear Waste Management Shipping Coordinator to enhance our team.

Job Summary

The selected candidate will lead and execute designated radiation protection initiatives related to Radwaste Disposal and Shipping, as well as Radioactive Source Inventory.

The ideal applicant should possess training and experience in managing radioactive shipments and supporting radwaste processing and packaging operations within a nuclear environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and uphold the Radioactive Waste/Material Shipping Program.
  • Maintain qualifications for characterizing and shipping radioactive materials and waste for processing and disposal.
  • Create and sustain procedures for radioactive material shipping.
  • Receive, package, and dispatch radioactive materials in accordance with relevant transportation regulations; accurately characterize shipments and select suitable packaging; ensure proper marking, labeling, and placarding; prepare necessary documentation for each shipment.
  • Ensure compliance with disposal facility certifications and licenses.
  • Coordinate radioactive material shipping schedules and collaborate cross-functionally to meet deadlines.
  • Manage contracts related to radioactive shipping, processing, and disposal, including oversight of personnel involved in shipping activities.
  • Implement and maintain a source inventory and control program as assigned.
  • Engage with regulatory and industry representatives on behalf of station activities, effectively communicating technical information both verbally and in writing.
  • Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies as outlined in the Emergency Plan.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • DOT Shipping Qualification.
  • A minimum of 4 years of shipping experience.
  • Technical proficiency in Radiation Protection Operations.
  • Understanding of nuclear generation principles and operations.
  • Proficiency with current business applications.
  • Required certifications: DOT/NRC Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal Certification, IATA/DOT Certification.
