From your PASSION to ours

The Sanitation Operations Manager oversees, directs, and coordinates activities related to food safety and sanitation protocols in a food manufacturing setting. This role is responsible for managing plant cleaning, sanitation, and ensuring compliance with GMP's, USDA regulations, and safety practices, as well as sanitation policies and procedures. The Sanitation Operations Manager reports to the Site Sanitation Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this position include:
  • Supervising compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices regarding sanitation protocols.
  • Monitoring and auditing cleaning systems/procedures for processing and packaging equipment, proposing adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal cleanliness.
  • Ensuring adherence to all company and regulatory sanitation standards for food quality and safety, as well as employee safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborating closely with management and production teams on sanitation issues; recommending enhancements to improve sanitation policies, procedures, and cleaning effectiveness.
  • Conducting thorough sanitation audits on each unique production process to assess sanitation effectiveness and communicating findings regarding inspections, deviations, and corrective actions taken.
  • Implementing training programs for all sanitation procedures/topics and overseeing the development and training of sanitation personnel in collaboration with production teams.
  • Understanding chemical specifications and their proper application for various processing/packaging equipment SSOP's.
  • Conducting scheduled sanitation validation audits, inspecting critical processing and packaging equipment to ensure proper cleanability and sanitization.
  • Participating as needed in the commissioning of new equipment and process expansions, monitoring the progress of CIP validation completion on site.
  • Assisting in ensuring adequate sanitation coverage on site.
  • Maintaining and updating departmental procedures, including the master sanitation schedule and SSOP's, to reflect process improvements that uphold or enhance hygienic conditions.
  • Reviewing and maintaining sanitation documentation for Quality Assurance and regulatory purposes, collaborating with the Quality team.
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities for chemical usage, monitoring chemical waste, and seeking ways to enhance cleaning efficiency.
  • Building partnerships with production, quality, and human resources to meet production and personnel objectives.
  • Fostering a positive work environment and promoting a culture of safety.
  • Following up on waste disposal monitoring and plant water sampling as needed.
  • Reviewing the Master Sanitation Plan with departments and making adjustments as necessary.

Qualified applicants will possess the following:

Education - Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
Experience
  • Experience in leading/supervising a sanitation team in the food and beverage industry; and/or experience with quality supervision/management specific to the dairy sector.
  • Specialized Knowledge in chemicals, cleaning in place, cleaning out of place, membrane cleaning, and evaporator cleaning in dairy processing.
  • Skills / Abilities: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively, continuous improvement mindset, collaboration with production and quality teams to enhance sanitation and micro compliance, proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, effective communication skills, autonomy in work, critical thinking, and root cause analysis.
  • Commitment to safety and promoting safe practices and behaviors.
  • Engagement with chemical providers for follow-up.
