At Hackensack Meridian Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth coordination of surgical procedures and tests.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate all aspects of tests, procedures, and surgeries under the direction of the Practice Supervisor or Manager and physician(s) in an efficient manner.
- Schedule procedures in a prompt, polite, and helpful manner, following guidelines of each facility, including any required booking sheets.
- Verify patient demographics, log patient and insurance information, and obtain precertification from the payer.
- Coordinate procedure appointments with physician's calendar and communicate appointments and surgical preparation information to patients.
- Arrange co-surgeon or assistant as needed and cross-schedule with other departments.
- Ensure pre-op procedures are followed with consistency, including completion of surgical documentation and distribution to appropriate departments.
- Responsible for maintaining block time guidelines at each of the hospitals.
- Coordinate required postoperative care under the direction of the provider.
- Obtain surgical billing information from physicians and work with the coding department to obtain appropriate codes and post and reconcile all surgical charges.
- Track all procedures, including completed and pending cases, and track all surgical testing and pathology results.
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs plus two years of related experience.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment.
- 2 years of progressive experience in a medical office.
- Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Surgical coding knowledge (CPT and ICD-10) preferred.
- CPR certification is preferred.
