Position Overview:

The First Mate on a luxury yacht plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the vessel. This position requires extensive knowledge of navigation, bridge operations, and deck management, along with the ability to mentor and guide the deck crew in various maintenance and repair tasks.

Vessel Specifications:

The yacht is a remarkable 123-foot vessel featuring a robust steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. It is powered by two high-performance 920 H.P 12-cylinder Caterpillar engines and equipped with dual 105 K.W. Caterpillar generators. With a diesel fuel capacity of 10,200 gallons, it boasts an impressive range of 4000 miles and a maximum speed of 17 knots.

Bridge and Equipment:

The pilot house is outfitted with advanced navigation tools, including dual radars, depth sounders, a Gyro compass, two chart plotters, auto pilot, VHF radios, and HDTV for enhanced operational efficiency. The fly bridge features dual controls and is accompanied by two 21-foot Boston Whalers for launches.

Guest and Crew Accommodations:

Guest facilities include four luxurious staterooms, seven full bathrooms, and a powder room. The crew quarters consist of three cabins and a separate galley equipped with a dishwasher, ensuring comfort and functionality for all onboard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the captain in administrative and safety-related tasks.
  • Oversee the deck crew and maintain discipline among team members.
  • Organize regular safety drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Establish watch schedules for efficient operations.
  • Manage maintenance tasks and inventory of deck equipment.
  • Prepare the yacht for sea voyages.
  • Conduct navigation duties.
  • Adhere to the deck budget.
  • Pursue ongoing education and licensing requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Capability to assume the captain's responsibilities in their absence.
  • Strong delegation skills, effective communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in boat handling, watchkeeping, and navigation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ISM and ISPS protocols.
  • Extensive skills in maintenance tasks, including cleaning, rust treatment, painting, varnishing, rope splicing, and carpentry.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of various water sports.
  • Competence in computer applications.
