The Registered Nurse at North Oaks Medical Center plays a crucial role in patient care, embodying the core values of the nursing profession.

The Registered Nurse is integral to the healthcare team, delivering high-quality nursing care in accordance with NOMC standards.They are committed to the philosophy and objectives of Nursing Services and serve as a resource for other healthcare team members.
Effective communication with personnel, physicians, other departments, patients, and families is essential.Qualifications:
Education:
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Licensure/Certification:
Current RN license in Louisiana.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program:
Completion of NRP within six months of employment (or as available).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support:
Completion of ACLS.
AWHONN 2-Day Intermediate Course within six months of employment (or as available).
Fetal Monitoring Course:
Participation every two years is required.
Membership in a professional organization is encouraged.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for extended periods. Lifting and transporting patients is necessary. Manual dexterity and motor coordination are essential.
Core Responsibilities:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
B. Assist with quality assurance audits.
C. Administer medications as prescribed by physicians.
D. Document patient responses to medications and procedures using appropriate records.
E. Monitor patients receiving I.V. conscious sedation in accordance with policy.
- Administer blood products, nutritional support, and chemotherapy.
Antepartum Care:
A. Capable of assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients experiencing complications during the antepartum period, including:
preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, pregnancy-induced hypertension, diabetes, bleeding, and infection.
B. Demonstrate proficiency in antepartum testing, including non-stress tests and contraction stress tests.
C. Provide education to patients and families based on their diagnoses.
Intrapartum Care:
A. Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the labor and delivery process and perform thorough assessments of laboring women.
B. Deliver care to both normal and complicated laboring patients.
C. Manage pain during labor and assess pain levels using appropriate scales.
D. Interpret electronic fetal monitoring and initiate necessary nursing interventions.
E. Knowledgeable about labor and delivery medications and emergency procedures.
Newborn Care:
A. Perform initial assessments and care for newborns at delivery, including maintaining thermoregulation and reporting abnormalities.
B. Support breastfeeding families and provide in-service training on breastfeeding techniques.
C. Participate in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
Postpartum Care:
A. Conduct comprehensive assessments of postpartum women and deliver appropriate care.
B. Educate mothers and families about the postpartum period and discharge instructions.
Equipment and Supply Management:
A. Safely operate necessary equipment and supplies, including fetal monitors and infusion pumps.
Professional Development:
A. Participate in professional development activities and maintain required certifications.
B. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
