About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Design Engineer II to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our spacecraft design team, you will be responsible for the structural analysis and design of various spaceflight systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis for various spaceflight systems, including spacecraft and launch vehicles.
  • Design and release manufacturing drawings for various space-related components.
  • Guide system/part development and trade studies regarding structural integrity.
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and implement changes as needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians in structural analysis and design.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with structural design and release of manufacturing drawings for various space-related components.
  • Experience with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred).
  • Knowledge of Windchill and experience with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowable development.
  • Experience analyzing components in high-vibration environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications
  • Mastery of the application and use of machining, additive manufacturing, welding and/or casting and their effects on structural integrity.
  • Experience with common fluids system materials such as high-strength aluminum alloys, nickel-based Superalloys, titanium alloys, and corrosion-resistant steels.
  • Experience with cryogenic and elevated temperature systems and the applicable analysis approaches.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis and linear-elastic fracture mechanics (hand calculations, etc.).
  • Very proficient with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct.
