Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Legal Secretary to join its Criminal Appeals Section. This role is essential in providing comprehensive legal and administrative assistance to a team of litigation attorneys.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting and typing legal documents, briefs, and correspondence from dictation and written materials.
  • Managing filing systems and responding to inquiries from the public.
  • Creating and maintaining legal databases and managing docket control.
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping and case management.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess strong proficiency in MS Word, particularly in preparing litigation documents, memoranda, and correspondence. A typing speed of 65-70 words per minute is required. Candidates must exhibit attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Collaboration and independent work skills are essential, as is familiarity with case management software.

Preferred Qualifications

This position may be located in various offices, with the final location determined upon hiring based on the candidate's residence.
