Job Summary

This full-time position for the Venous Access Team is a specialty role that supports all areas of William P. Clements, Jr. University Hospital to assist with the placement of PIVs, PICCs and midlines utilizing sono-guidance for patients with difficult vasculature.

As a key member of the Venous Access Team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring the safe and effective insertion of vascular access devices.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform and accurately document physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments.
  2. Actively anticipate patient's and/or patient's family needs and expectations and utilize these in conjunction with the assessment to develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient.
  3. Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions based on the completed assessment.
  4. Appropriately prioritize nursing interventions based upon completed assessment.
  5. Evaluate implemented interventions and modify care according to the evaluation.
  6. Adhere to appropriate hospital and/or Department of Nursing policies, procedures, clinical pathways and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice.
  7. Provide appropriate and timely answers and/or education to patients, patient's families, significant others and/or caregivers.
  8. Welcomes and orients patient, family, significant other and/or caregiver to the unit.
  9. Advocate for resources and support that enhance patient safety and unit/hospital based initiatives.
  10. Participates in evaluating data to guide decisions regarding unit / department budget formulation and implementation.
Requirements
  • One (1) year experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
  • BLS& ACLS required (AHA or ARC).
  • Excellent IV skills required.
  • Experience with moderate sedation administration and monitoring needed.
  • Current RN license through TX BON or graduate of accredited program in respiratory care licensed by the Texas Medical Board, Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • BSN preferred.
