Overview

Atrium Health is seeking a skilled Genetic Counselor II to join our team of 6 Genetic Counselors and 11 Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians. Our team operates out of 3 offices in the Charlotte area, collaborating with other genetic counselor teams in the local system. As a Genetic Counselor II, you will provide preconception and prenatal Genetic Counseling services, requiring some travel to our Concord and Kenilworth offices. Virtual genetic counseling services may also be included.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will assist in the planning, development, and implementation of clinical practice, research, and education in the area of human/clinical genetics. Key responsibilities include assessing, planning, and managing medical, psychological, and social problems for a specialty patient population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage medical, psychological, and social problems for a specialty patient population.
  • Act as liaison with healthcare professionals for inquiries and referrals, communicating clearly with patients and families.
  • Maintain accurate case records for each referred patient, documenting fully, accurately, and appropriately in the medical record.
  • Initiate, design, and conduct formal and informal education programs for physicians, genetic counseling students, other health professionals, and the general community.
  • Plan, develop, and implement programs, policies, and procedures within the area of human/clinical genetics.
  • Monitor and integrate new technologies, theories, and community resources.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's of Science in Genetic Counseling or a related field, with two or more years of experience as a Genetic Counselor. Board Certification as a Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling is also required.

Physical Requirements

The successful candidate must be able to walk, stand, sit, lift, teach, bend, push, and pull, with the ability to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds. May be exposed to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Must have intact senses of sight, hearing, speech, touch, and finger dexterity.
