SUMMARY:
The Culinary Wellness Coordinator is an at-will role that reports to the Director of the Crisis Residential Unit. This position is responsible for overseeing and implementing meal planning, procurement, and food preparation in alignment with Common Ground's Wellness policy while adhering to the agency's budgetary constraints. The Culinary Wellness Coordinator will ensure that all food service operations within the Crisis Residential Unit are executed in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. Additionally, this role will collaborate with a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented multidisciplinary team to promote wellness and healthy lifestyle choices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Foster a supportive, empathetic, and engaging atmosphere within the food service area.
- Design, order, and manage food service menus and meals for up to 16 individuals daily.
- Publish weekly menus and serve meals at designated times.
- Oversee food preparation techniques, portion sizes, and food presentation.
- Supervise participants involved in kitchen and food preparation tasks.
- Maintain budget control, cost management, and kitchen inventory.
- Ensure meal preparation expenses align with program budget.
- Develop modified diets to accommodate the health and dietary needs of individuals with restrictions.
- Uphold established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation in accordance with State of Michigan Licensing regulations.
- Keep the kitchen organized, sanitary, and safe.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment, identify equipment needs for food preparation, and assist in procurement as necessary.
- Adhere to established Quality Improvement Indicators.
- Maintain compliance with all agency training requirements.
- Follow attendance and punctuality policies, along with all other Common Ground policies and procedures.
- Operate program vehicle to procure necessary food service inventory.
- Purchase appropriate food service items from vendors as required.
- Responsible for preparing occasional meals, snacks, or other special events as assigned.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Current behavioral management and de-escalation techniques.
- The relationship between nutrition and mental health recovery.
- Recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care in behavioral healthcare.
- Efficiently type, enter data, and organize files.
- Operate office equipment effectively.

- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in food preparation and service.
- ServSafe or comparable food preparation certification is preferred.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds, lift up to 50 pounds, and carry up to 25 pounds. The duties of this position require significant physical mobility and lifting. The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Environmental Working Requirements:
Work is conducted in both an office environment with exposure to computer screens and in the Crisis Residential Unit. Assignments may require work to be done individually or in teams with members at various staffing levels. The work environment is that of a crisis center and may expose staff to behavioral and medical events that could pose physical hazards.
Other Requirements:
The ability to work various shifts and irregular hours to meet the needs of individuals served; local travel is required.
