Role Summary:

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the surgical team, assisting in both direct and indirect patient care within the Operating Room. This position is essential for maintaining a professional, compassionate, and responsive healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of surgical areas, including dusting and organizing equipment.
  • Verify and prepare surgical supplies and instruments as per preference cards.
  • Scrub in for assigned surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during operations.
  • Handle specimens accurately and responsibly.
  • Support in patient preparation for surgical procedures.
  • Maintain and care for surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Restock and clean operating rooms post-procedure.
  • Contribute to updating preference cards as necessary.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions to ensure patient safety.
  • Participate in staff meetings and seek process improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a clinical resource for staff and students, fostering teamwork.

Qualifications:
  • Current certification as a surgical technologist.
  • BLS certification (AHA).
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Surgical Technologist experience in an acute care setting; 2-3 years preferred.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital environment is essential.
