Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time Adaptive Aquatics Professional to join our team at JCC Greater Boston. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and adults with disabilities.

As an Adaptive Aquatics Instructor, you will be responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment that fosters confidence and develops swimmer proficiency. You will establish individual swim goals, identify roadblocks, address challenges, and help swimmers meet swim skill benchmarks that create water safety, increase leisure, and promote overall swim abilities.

This role requires a strong customer service orientation, teamwork skills, and the ability to adapt to different personalities, aptitudes, and attentional levels. You must be able to communicate effectively with community members and coworkers in person, over email, and on the phone.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, supportive environment for swimmers with disabilities
  • Establish individual swim goals and track progress
  • Use discretion to adapt approach as needed to meet unique needs of each swimmer
  • Provide ongoing communication with supervisor regarding classes and programming
  • Recognize and respond according to protocols for emergencies

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 6 months prior experience working with persons with disabilities in an adapted space
  • Must be 16 years or older at time of hire
  • Must be able to complete Swim Angelfish certification within 2 weeks of hire

Salary: $35-$45 per hour, approximately 15 hours/week. Benefits include free membership to JCC Greater Boston's fitness center, access to group fit classes, Arts & Culture adult programming, and discounts on various programs and services.
