HVAC Technician

Job Summary:
The Lifespan HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of HVAC systems. This includes troubleshooting, installing, and repairing heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration units as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all mechanical systems.
- Diagnose problems and perform repairs on various mechanical and electrical equipment in HVAC systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on various mechanical and electrical equipment in HVAC systems, including checking and changing filters and belts on a regular basis.
- Make daily inspections of all pumps, air-handling units, refrigeration units, air conditioning, and ventilation units in all machinery spaces, making spot repairs and adjustments to systems as necessary.
- Make necessary repairs to malfunctioning equipment, including replacement of fan belts, replacing pumps, replacing motors, and repairing and recharging refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
- Record readings, repairs, and adjusts controls on HVAC systems, including pneumatic discharge controllers and thermostats.
- Assist in the installation, removal, and storage of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, complying with CFC regulations regarding removal, storage, and disposal of all refrigerants.
- Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Assist in the seasonal overhaul and transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa.
- Participate in snow and ice removal operations.
- Maintain a daily log of requests for service work performed and time and materials expended.
Requirements:
- Knowledge generally acquired through completion of one to two years formal training in heating, ventilation, and refrigeration or equivalent.
- Completion of three years accredited Apprenticeship HVAC Program.
- Requires City of Providence Refrigeration Operators License and the State of Rhode Island Refrigeration Journeyman License.
- Experience working with steam and hot water boilers certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning, and related systems.
- Must have a good driving record and meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate a motor vehicle as required by the Fleet Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Lifespan Fleet Risk Control Policy.
