Lead Fleet Mechanic

Bousum Trucking is seeking an experienced Lead Fleet Mechanic to assist with day-to-day operations and coordinate work requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical background and be proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel trucks within our fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
- Perform diagnostics to identify issues and determine necessary repairs.
- Execute repairs on mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Utilize hand tools and diagnostic equipment effectively to complete repairs.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and air brake components as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance performed on each vehicle.
- Collaborate with team members to prioritize repairs based on urgency and safety considerations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols while performing heavy lifting and working with various components.
- Reads and interprets DVIR's (vehicle condition reports) and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or driver for clarification of problems and preventive techniques to minimize future repairs.
- Will train and provide continual guidance to other Mechanics as necessary.
- Makes emergency road calls to repair trucks.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a mechanic, with a primary focus on fleet maintenance.
- Strong mechanical knowledge, including familiarity with electrical systems, hydraulics, and tractor diagnostics.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as required during the repair process.
- Proficient in using hand tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Knowledge of air brake systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A valid driver's license is required; additional certifications related to diesel truck repair are a plus.
- A CDL CLASS -A license is a bonus.
- Ability to work in both Interior and Exterior conditions.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintain a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment is required.
- Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks;
- Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers
- Computer skills needed for diagnostics.
