Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Radiologic Technologist II to join our team in the Pain Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of patient contact duties related to the operations of radiologic equipment to make clinical X-ray images as directed by a physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct equipment system warm-up and quality assurance procedures according to established guidelines to ensure a safe and effective equipment operation.
  • Correctly identify patients by checking identification bands against requisitions prior to the start of procedures.
  • Correctly interpret exam requests, ensuring history conforms to exam requested.
  • Obtain patient vital signs and communicate directly with the Center's physician staff.
  • Prepare patients physically and emotionally for various treatments in the Center, through interview, physical assessment, education, recovery, and patient instruction in self-care.
  • Position and instruct patients regarding procedures, being cognizant of patient condition at all times.
  • Select proper exposure factors for procedures.
  • Arrange or adjust immobilization and supportive devices to obtain desired radiographic positions and prevent patient movement and discomfort.
  • Adjust lead shields and collimate to protect unaffected body parts from radiation exposure. Direct personnel to safe areas before exposure.
  • Identify, prepare, and handle medications as prescribed by licensed practitioners.
  • Assist in turning over procedure and exam rooms.
  • Act as a primary liaison between patients and physician staff, serving as a critical link in providing seamless continuity of care.
  • Monitor clinical schedules to keep physician and team on track for the day.
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of related topics, including radiation safety, universal precautions, disposal of contaminated materials, proper handling of requisitions, interpersonal skills, communication, and dealing with difficult situations.
  • Maintain knowledge of emergency equipment location and procedure necessary to alert the code team.
  • Maintain high levels of quality assurance for finished radiographs, safe and clean working environments.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism at all times.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma and successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Certification by the ARRT and a valid license to practice as a radiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry.
  • Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to lift over 5 lbs.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to perform clinical duties at a high level both individually and as a team member.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to function on a high-energy team and demonstrate success through teamwork.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all age groups.
