Position Summary:

The Biological Scientist specializing in Molecular and Cellular Biology will engage in research focused on the cellular dynamics associated with substance abuse and HIV-related studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide essential technical expertise to investigate fundamental biological principles related to both flora and fauna.
  • Assist in executing fundamental laboratory experiments and methodologies, including:
    • Gathering and interpreting biological data concerning the interactions between organisms and their surroundings.
    • Monitoring experimental processes, documenting production and testing data for analysis by research teams.
    • Evaluating experimental outcomes and composing reports summarizing findings.
    • Coordinating activities among biological technicians, technologists, and fellow scientists.
    • Utilizing techniques for measuring proteins and nucleic acids in both cellular and tissue samples, including brain sectioning, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, and genomic analysis via qPCR and western blot methods.
  • Organize and maintain various laboratory samples, materials, and instruments, which includes:
    • Operating and calibrating analytical equipment such as spectrophotometers and calorimeters.
    • Ensuring proper maintenance of laboratory apparatus.
    • Conducting sample analyses and interpreting laboratory results.
    • Keeping detailed and accurate records of laboratory activities, converting them into electronic formats as necessary.
    • Collecting and analyzing data, managing spreadsheets, and preparing visual reports for protocol tracking.
    • Documenting research findings using digital methods on a daily basis.
  • Acquire new laboratory techniques and protocols, including:
    • Utilizing computer systems for data storage, processing, and analysis.
    • Interpreting both research and operational data.
    • Documenting relevant research or operational information.
  • Maintain and inspect laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct validation processes.
  • Participate in meetings with laboratory personnel to provide updates on research progress.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Molecular Biology or Neuroscience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular biology, and PCR technologies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Capability to stand or walk frequently, possess correctable near vision, depth perception, distinguish basic colors, utilize both hands, reach above shoulder height, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

  • Experience with the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
