POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Mechanic plays a crucial role in the upkeep of all marine machinery. This position involves conducting routine inspections and maintenance on various equipment to ensure optimal performance. The Field Mechanic collaborates closely with the Chief Engineer, undertaking additional tasks as necessary to avert mechanical breakdowns.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance on all machinery.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, evaluating the situation and executing necessary repairs.
- Adhere to and implement the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Guide and mentor the engineering team on the correct usage of equipment.
- Communicate with the Chief Engineer and Captain regarding any repairs needed to effectively plan for downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections and maintenance activities.
- Carry out additional related tasks as assigned.
- Engage in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with regulations and enhance existing company programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Applicants must possess:
- A solid mechanical background.
- The ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and respond swiftly to challenges.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the capability to perform repairs as required.
- Experience with various equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air compressors, and more.
- Compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and complete tasks accurately and timely.
- Willingness to work at remote project sites for extended periods.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Capability to obtain necessary certifications.
- Knowledge of marine equipment operations and tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with team members and supervisors.
PREFERRED SKILLS
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The candidate must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodations. This includes the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The position also necessitates:
- Mobility across varying job site elevations and access points.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and other physical activities.
- Repetitive movements involving various body parts.
- The ability to lift and carry weights up to 30lbs independently, with additional assistance for heavier loads.
- Capability to exert force when pushing or pulling equipment.
- Climbing heights of 6ft or more and working in confined spaces.
- Adaptability to changing temperatures and outdoor conditions.
