The Academy of Collaborative Education is seeking a dedicated Communication Specialist in Speech Therapy. This position involves evaluating, diagnosing, and providing therapeutic services for students experiencing communication challenges, ensuring their academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessment: Evaluate students' communication abilities, including language proficiency and speech articulation.
  • Collaboration: Partner with a multidisciplinary team to create a comprehensive communication profile and a cohesive support plan.
  • Plan Development: Design individualized education plans (IEPs) that include therapy objectives tailored to assessment findings and student requirements.
  • Therapeutic Implementation: Apply evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address speech and language objectives, pragmatic communication, and social-emotional development. Adapt methods to meet diverse learning styles and sensory needs.
  • Service Delivery: Provide integrated speech services to students in both individual and small group settings within the classroom.
  • Family Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians to update them on progress, share home strategies, and offer guidance for enhancing communication skills outside of school.
  • Record Keeping: Ensure accurate documentation of assessments, therapy sessions, progress towards goals, and interactions with families.
  • Progress Monitoring: Continuously assess and track student progress through data collection and periodic reviews to adjust therapy goals and methods as necessary.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend and actively contribute to evaluation and IEP meetings, case discussions, and team gatherings to review student progress and collaboratively refine support strategies.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Louisiana Speech-Language Pathologist license.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) or currently in Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
  • Willingness to receive training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, AAC systems, and communication devices utilized by individuals with autism.
  • Understanding of special education regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and IEP development requirements.
Working Conditions:

This role may involve physical activities such as stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, and walking. The position may require lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
