We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Associates Board as an Associate Board Member. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in expanding educational and career opportunities for Breakthrough New York students.
Key Responsibilities- Champion Breakthrough New York's Mission: Amplify awareness about our organization among emerging leaders and champion our mission to empower students from low-income communities to achieve college educations and meaningful careers.
- Grow Corporate and Civic Partnerships: Expand our corporate and civic partnerships to increase opportunities for Breakthrough New York students and help us build a diverse board that reflects our community and the city at large.
- Raise Funds and Resources: Actively support our collective effort to raise $40,000+ annually through an annual fundraising event and help us build sustainable resources and connections for our students.
As an Associate Board Member, you will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within our organization, including:
- Chair: Manage our board's alignment with organizational values and goals, and organize our board's progress towards collective and individual goals.
- Vice Chair: Support the management of board members, including onboarding, tracking progress towards individual goals, and supporting administrative tasks.
- Committee Chairs: Lead committee efforts to reach stated goals and help us build a strong and effective team.
Our committees are a key part of our organization, and as an Associate Board Member, you will have the opportunity to participate in and lead committees, including:
- Events Committee: Work with our staff to organize an annual fundraising event and help us build a strong and engaging event.
- Network Connections Committee: Help our board members activate their networks for the benefit of Breakthrough students and help us build a strong and diverse network.
- Membership & Recruitment Committee: Identify and nominate potential board candidates and help us build a strong and effective team.
As an Associate Board Member, you will be expected to:
- Attend Quarterly Meetings: Attend quarterly meetings and participate in discussions and decision-making.
- Serve on Committees: Serve on at least one committee and help us build a strong and effective team.
- Donate or Raise Funds: Donate or raise at least $5,000/year from personal and professional networks and help us build sustainable resources and connections for our students.
- Promote Breakthrough New York: Promote Breakthrough New York and partnership opportunities to personal and professional networks and help us build a strong and diverse network.
We are looking for individuals who demonstrate:
- A Deep Belief in Educational Equity and Excellence: A deep belief in the importance of educational equity and excellence and the mission of Breakthrough New York to empower students from low-income communities to achieve college educations and meaningful careers.
- A Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in centering student agency and diversifying the future workforce.
- Knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility: Knowledge of corporate social responsibility within their industry and the capacity to navigate and advocate for opportunities accordingly.
- Strong Networking and Relationship-Building Skills: Strong networking and relationship-building skills, and the capacity to influence others to support Breakthrough New York.
