The Opportunity

Summer Search is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director of Development to lead our Philadelphia office in reaching our $1.5 million fundraising goal. This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 3 days per week in the Summer Search Philadelphia office and up to 2 days of remote work per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the execution of fundraising efforts, including managing the development calendar, leading weekly development team meetings, and reporting on goal progress to key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate partners to drive institutional giving and secure funding for Summer Search's programs.
  • Develop and implement donor-specific cultivation strategies, leveraging staff and Board leadership to solicit and steward prospects and donors.
  • Partner with the Deputy Director of Development and Executive Director to drive institutional giving through building relationships with foundations and submitting grants.
  • Manage and mentor the Development Coordinator to ensure revenue success, staff professional development, and excellent development operations.
  • Represent development and alumni programming on the Philadelphia Director team, leveraging data, stories, and knowledge of the regional educational landscape to communicate with external funders and donors.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in nonprofit development, with a track record of successful individual and major donor solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Board liaison experience and knowledge of the Philadelphia educational landscape and community is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven approach to fundraising, with experience in translating strategy into tangible activities and goals.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships with donors and stakeholders.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to create systems and structures to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Cultural humility and the ability to lead with empathy and self-reflection to respect the beliefs, customs, and values of people.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or comparable fundraising database and all Microsoft Office functions.

Summer Search offers a competitive and transparent salary range of $84,749 - $94,034, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance with up to 90% employer contribution, dental, vision, FSA, life, and disability insurance plans, 401(k) with employer match up to $2,000 annually, and generous time off including 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 18 holidays.
