Job Title: School Counselor

DeKalb County School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Counselor to join our team.

Job Summary:

The School Counselor will provide comprehensive support to students through social-emotional guidance, academic advising, and career exploration while coordinating Section plans and collaborating with faculty, parents, and community resources to ensure a positive learning environment and promote student success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and Deliver Counseling Programs: Create and implement comprehensive counseling programs, including social-emotional learning, academic advising, and career planning to support students' academic and personal growth.
  • Coordinate Section Plans: Oversee and coordinate Section plans to ensure teacher awareness of student accommodations and needs, promoting a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Evaluate Educational Documents: Evaluate and interpret educational documents such as transcripts for student placement, ensuring accurate and informed decision-making.
  • Provide Scheduling Assistance: Offer scheduling assistance to students, helping them navigate their academic schedules and make informed choices.
  • Individual and Group Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling services to address issues ranging from academic performance to personal development, promoting students' emotional well-being and academic success.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student success, fostering a collaborative and supportive community.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor students' progress toward graduation by tracking attendance and academic performance, identifying areas for improvement and providing targeted support.
  • Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution: Advocate for students' needs with crisis intervention and conflict resolution when necessary, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Counseling Services: Implement counseling services in alignment with state standards as well as district policies, promoting a high-quality and effective counseling program.
  • Problem-Solving and Process Improvement: Identify and resolve minor problems as they arise, suggesting minor modifications as appropriate to processes to enhance the performance of the department.
Requirements:
  • Education: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, or a closely related area is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years counseling, at-risk youth casework, or closely related experience is required.
  • Certifications: Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in guidance and counseling at level S-5 or above is required.
