Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Counselor I will administer a comprehensive guidance program aimed at fostering self-esteem, responsible behavior, career exploration, and educational planning. This role involves assisting students and parents while collaborating with community resources, faculty, and staff to develop and implement effective programs and services for the school.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive guidance program for all students; conducts classroom sessions focused on personal, academic, and career development.
  • Facilitates the transition of students in preparation for advancement to the next grade level.
  • Collaborates with staff to support school initiatives and programs; employs strategies to enhance the learning environment.
  • Analyzes test scores for parents and students in relation to educational programs.
  • Engages in Student Support Team meetings to address behavioral, academic, and speech-related concerns.
  • Consults with teachers and parents to address student needs; provides external resources for emotional, family, economic, clothing, and medical support.
  • Monitors student attendance to ensure regular school participation; communicates with students and parents regarding attendance issues and follows up with necessary documentation.
  • Initiates programs to cultivate positive relationships with families and students.
  • Mediates conflicts among students.
  • Completes referrals to social workers as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in education or human services (guidance, counseling, etc.) from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in teaching, counseling, or working with at-risk youth is required.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • A valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in guidance and counseling at level S-5 or above is required.
