Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-3:30pm (35 hours per week)

This role is designated for a Classroom Support Specialist Float.

Compensation:

Classroom Support Specialist: $17.50 per hour

Teacher Assistant Levels 1/2/3: $19.00/$20.00/$21.00 per hour (requires NYSED certification)

General Responsibilities:

The Classroom Support Specialist will assist the designated educator in various aspects of the daily classroom operations. Responsibilities include supporting children as directed by the educator and ensuring a safe and healthy classroom environment through assigned tasks. Flexibility in classroom assignments may be required based on program needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support students under the guidance of the educator.
  2. Participate in staff and parent meetings as required.
  3. Engage in daily planning sessions with educators to comprehend educational strategies.
  4. Complete specific tasks as assigned by the educator, including timely preparation of classroom materials.
  5. Contribute to maintaining an appealing, safe, and hygienic classroom environment.
  6. Assist in maintaining health and safety standards in the classroom, including regular cleaning and sanitizing of surfaces and toys.
  7. Supervise students during bus, hallway, and playground activities.
  8. Assist with snack preparation and clean-up duties.
  9. Perform additional related tasks as needed.
  10. Provide personal care and assistance to students in daily living activities as directed by the educator.
  11. Facilitate effective communication and interactions among students and adults.
  12. Attend team meetings as assigned.
  13. Implement classroom-specific behavior management strategies under the educator's supervision.

Professional Conduct:

  1. Exhibit appropriate behavior and cooperation in a school environment.
  2. Adhere to program-specific policies and procedures.
  3. Fulfill other assigned duties as necessary.

Professional Development:

  1. Attend and engage in all required training sessions. Additionally, preschool roles must complete all mandated OCFS training (5-hour health & safety training within the first 90 days of employment, 15 hours of approved training within the first 6 months, and 30 hours of approved training within 2 years).
  2. Participate in supervision and implement recommendations effectively.
  3. Attend staff meetings with the classroom educator.

Compliance Standards:

  1. Adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct.
  2. Follow emergency and disaster preparedness protocols.
  3. Meet departmental in-service education program requirements, which may necessitate fulfilling hours outside of agency time.
  4. Comply with fire and safety prevention protocols.
  5. Follow policies and procedures regarding attendance, punctuality, appearance, and professional demeanor.
  6. Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
  7. Participate in job-related self-development education activities.
  8. Implement infection control practices and procedures.
  9. Meet regulatory requirements, including annual physical examinations and Mantoux testing.

Additional Duties:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the diverse needs of students and visitors across various age groups.
  2. Address safety and psychological needs of specific age groups appropriately.
  3. Support the needs of special groups, including those with hearing impairments and physical challenges.
  4. Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families, avoiding discussions in their presence.
  5. Exhibit courteous and considerate behavior in all interactions with students, families, visitors, and colleagues.
  6. Promote a positive, service-oriented attitude, characterized by friendliness and approachability.
  7. Respond promptly to requests from students and parents/guardians, referring them to the appropriate team member when necessary.
  8. Encourage positive relationships among coworkers, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  9. Take individual responsibility for delivering high-quality service.
  10. Direct parents/guardians/therapists to the educator regarding students' educational needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Criminal background check clearance required.
  • Must obtain NYS Teacher Assistant Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills are essential.
  • Experience working with children and special education students is preferred.
  • A warm and calm demeanor is required.

Physical Requirements:

Physical aspects of the role may include lifting and transferring students as necessary.
