Optical Fiber Manufacturing Technician

Position: Optical Fiber Manufacturing Associate
Reports To: Operations and designated supervisor
Purpose: To provide essential support to the manufacturing process within our optical fiber production facility.
Responsibilities- Ensure safe operation in an environment involving hot glass, sharp glass, and specialized equipment. Adhere to all safety guidelines and training protocols when operating hydrogen/oxygen hand torches and burners.
- Safely transfer hot glass using designated carts and techniques as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate records throughout the manufacturing process.
- Strictly comply with all applicable OSHA safety regulations, ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) guidelines, and mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Guarantee that all produced products meet the stringent quality standards defined by our Plant's Quality Management Systems.
- Accurately generate production health reports.
- Retrieve preforms and create barcode labels for accurate product identification.
- Collaborate with team members to safely handle glass preforms weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Work at heights (approximately 50 feet) in the Draw Process Area, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Prepare preforms for draw towers according to SOPs and instructions from supervisors.
- Safely lift and manage hot glass throughout the manufacturing process.
- Utilize proper loading equipment to ensure safe handling of materials.
- Clean and maintain draw towers meticulously, adhering to written specifications.
- Operate and troubleshoot draw towers effectively.
- Actively participate in Tier 1 turnover meetings and communication sessions to ensure seamless workflow.
- Obtain necessary certifications after completing training and evaluation.
- Champion exceptional housekeeping and 5S practices throughout the factory floor.
- Maintain physical stamina to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and reaching for extended periods (up to 12 hours).
- Possess full range of motion in shoulders, arms, hands, and fingers for efficient manipulation of products and equipment.
- Adhere to all safety, PPE, and regulatory requirements as deemed necessary by the position.
- Demonstrate willingness to cross-train in various areas of the facility based on business needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management personnel.
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to achieve a Silver or above score on the Work Keys assessment upon hiring.
- Successful completion of background checks and pre-employment drug testing is required.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols
- Proficiency in reading metric rulers and other measuring devices
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Meticulous attention to detail and a quality-oriented mindset
- Ability to think critically and make safe decisions under pressure
- Basic computer skills with a willingness to learn specialized applications
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
