Associate Chair, Sequential Art

Job Summary:
The Associate Chair, Sequential Art is a key leadership position at SCAD - Savannah College of Art and Design. This role requires a strong academic leader who can oversee the departmental budget, teach courses, conduct classroom observations and annual faculty performance evaluations, ensure mentoring and faculty development opportunities, make decisions on student academic matters, assist in recruiting students, and review graduate student applications and the placement of students in internships and careers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the departmental budget and ensure effective financial management.
- Teach courses and develop curriculum to meet the needs of students and the department.
- Conduct classroom observations and annual faculty performance evaluations to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Ensure mentoring and faculty development opportunities to support the growth and success of faculty members.
- Make decisions on student academic matters, including advising and support.
- Assist in recruiting students and promoting the department's programs and services.
- Review graduate student applications and the placement of students in internships and careers.
Requirements:
- Terminal degree in the discipline or a relevant field.
- Leadership and supervisory experience in academics or significant professional experience.
- Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise with a successful career as a faculty member or discipline professional.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership ability to transform strategic vision into implementation.
- A thorough understanding of curriculum development and utilization of assessments.
- Ability to conduct thorough evaluations and the knowledge to define needs of the department via good judgement.
- Willingness to collaborate, excellent organizational skills, outstanding interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills.
Travel Requirements: Less than 10%
Work Hours: As noted in the employment agreement.
