Maintenance Worker I Job Description

Central City Concern is a leading nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to individuals and families impacted by homelessness, poverty, and addictions. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Maintenance Worker I to join our team.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Worker I is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of our communities, properties, and programs. This role involves receiving and responding to maintenance work orders, identifying necessary repairs, and ensuring timely and quality-minded completion of tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, Maintain, and Repair Plumbing Systems: Inspect and maintain plumbing systems, valves, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, and sinks.
  • Electrical Equipment and Apparatus: Inspect and troubleshoot various types of electrical equipment and apparatus, including lighting fixtures, outlets, appliances.
  • Fire, Life, and Safety Equipment: Inspect and test as needed typical Fire, Life, and Safety equipment, including smoke alarms, emergency lighting, and exit lighting.
  • Carpentry and Remodeling: Conduct repairs and perform small remodeling projects requiring basic carpentry skills, framing, finishing, tile, carpet laying, wall preparation, and painting.
  • Work Order Management: Review, process, and ensure completion of work orders.
  • Supply and Material Management: Responsible for ensuring adequate supplies and materials are available and in working order.
  • Tool and Equipment Maintenance: Maintain tools, equipment, and materials, including check-in and out as required.
  • Grounds and Curb Appeal: Assist with general upkeep of grounds and curb appeal for all CCC properties.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: High school diploma or completion of G.E.D.
  • Building Maintenance Experience: Three years of building maintenance or rehabilitation experience, including maintenance of inventory and records.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Strong trouble-shooting skills in all aspects of building maintenance, including locksmith, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and flooring.
  • Driver's License and Background Check: Must have a current driver's license, pass a DMV background check, and be designated an acceptable driver as outlined in Central City Concern's Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull, and lift heavy objects, and climb stairs with reasonable or no accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pest Control Knowledge: Basic knowledge of pest control practices, specifically on Bed Bugs.
  • Pesticide Applicators License: Have an active Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicators Apprentice License (pay differential of 1.5% with active license).
