Role Overview:
The Reinsurance Accountant will manage the reinsurance operations for specific treaties. This role encompasses the execution, evaluation, and analysis of complex settlements assigned to the accountant. Reporting to the Manager of Reinsurance Accounting, this position requires independent collaboration with peers and leadership across various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain intricate reinsurance settlements for designated agreements, ensuring coordination of work requirements and deadlines with other teams, along with journal entry preparation and settlement analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the automated reinsurance accounting system.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the reinsurance agreements under management.
  • Proactively investigate and resolve discrepancies and inconsistencies identified in settlements through thorough analysis.
  • Address requests from other departments regarding reinsurance data.
  • Conduct analysis and reconciliations of complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Ensure timely and precise completion of month-end and quarter-end closing activities.
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned internal and external reinsurance stakeholders.
  • Support departmental projects as required.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities, with a knack for identifying, researching, and resolving accounting challenges.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is preferred, particularly in public accounting or the insurance sector.
  • Familiarity with statutory or US GAAP accounting within a life insurance context is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and Hyperion is a plus.
  • Completion of or interest in pursuing CPA and/or FLMI designations is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, is required.
